This is a cassowary corridor that links Mission Beach with the Atherton Tablelands rainforest.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWith state and local government, conservation groups and the cassowary recovery team all working together, we\u2019ve got a planting outcome that works for cassowaries now and into the future, and one that also meets rail requirements.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Southern Cassowaries are only found in North Queensland and Papua New Guinea, and they are an endangered species in Australia.<\/p>\n<p>Queensland Rail\u2019s Renee Madden-Hallett said working together was the key.[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][vc_column width=&#8221;1\/2&#8243; css=&#8221;.vc_custom_1563789122720{padding-right: 0px !important;padding-left: 34px !important;}&#8221; el_class=&#8221;great_header_right&#8221;][mk_padding_divider size=&#8221;206&#8243; visibility=&#8221;hidden-sm&#8221;][mk_padding_divider size=&#8221;50&#8243; visibility=&#8221;hidden-sm&#8221;][vc_column_text css=&#8221;.vc_custom_1619670486928{margin-bottom: 0px !important;}&#8221;]<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft wp-image-5621 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/terrain.org.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/qr10-smaller.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"723\" height=\"542\" srcset=\"https:\/\/terrain.org.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/qr10-smaller.jpg 723w, https:\/\/terrain.org.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/qr10-smaller-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 723px) 100vw, 723px\" \/>[\/vc_column_text][vc_column_text css=&#8221;.vc_custom_1619671079339{margin-bottom: 0px !important;}&#8221;]\u201cWe\u2019ve been able to improve essential infrastructure while also helping with safe movement of cassowaries, thanks to local knowledge and collaboration with a range of groups,\u2019\u2019 she said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe needed plant species that were robust, tolerant of flooding and could be planted densely while also being easy to maintain. What we\u2019ve come up with together serves all purposes.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>This project is supported by Terrain NRM through funding from the Australian Government\u2019s National Landcare
