As North Queensland Airports\u2019 Environmental Manager, Lucy will bring skills and experience in environmental strategy and collaborative environmental management.<\/p>\n

Lucy was born in Cairns and is an active part of the Far North Queensland community. She holds volunteer positions within the biodiversity, conservation, agriculture, youth support, and mental health sectors.<\/p>\n

Ms Friend is the fourth leader to take advantage of the Emerging Leader program, designed to improve capacity building and foster leadership within the younger generations of the Wet Tropics community.<\/p>\n

\u201cI want to see this region, my home, thrive sustainably, with the support of its future leaders. I\u2019m really excited for the opportunity to fill the twelve-month position as an Emerging Leader with Terrain NRM \u2013 it will give me first-hand experience with company directors and will enhance my ability to influence others.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cNatural Resource Management is of increasing importance locally and globally and we have a real opportunity to build on the inspiring work already done to take things to the next level through good governance and meaningful collaboration,\u201d Ms Friend said.<\/p>\n

Terrain NRM\u2019s Board Chair, Dr Keith Noble, said Terrain’s Emerging Leader program was established to provide young people with the real-world experience of board governance, decision making and strategy; along with the opportunity to explore career opportunities within natural resource management.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhile this experience will provide Lucy with an understanding of the importance of a\u00a0board, over the years we have found that it really helps the Terrain board in understanding and connecting with youthful perspectives and fresh ideas.\u201d[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][vc_column width=”1\/2″ css=”.vc_custom_1563789122720{padding-right: 0px !important;padding-left: 34px !important;}” el_class=”great_header_right”][mk_padding_divider size=”206″ visibility=”hidden-sm”][mk_padding_divider size=”50″ visibility=”hidden-sm”][vc_column_text css=”.vc_custom_1638847195042{margin-bottom: 0px !important;}”]\"Lucy[\/vc_column_text][vc_column_text css=”.vc_custom_1639363473284{margin-bottom: 0px !important;}”]\u201cYouth are our future leaders, and we want to provide every opportunity for them to contribute to the future of the Wet Tropics region, as they\u2019re already at the forefront of change and action now and into the future,\u201d Dr Noble said.<\/p>\n

Ms Friend is looking forward to learning more about the great work being done in the not-for-profit sector and develop the strengths of our region as a collective.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere are some really passionate and skilled people here, and some inspiring work already taking place. We\u2019ve got a lot of exciting new opportunities in our region,\u201d Ms Friend said.<\/p>\n

The Emerging Board Leader position is part of Terrain\u2019s Emerging Leader Program. The position is supported by a year-long knowledge exchange and mentoring program, which includes direct participation in Terrain NRM Board meetings, mentoring by Terrain NRM Directors, social events, and AGM attendance.<\/p>\n
